Privacy policy

Sift processes product information already present on the Amazon.com search page in your browser. It uses that information to show a filtered and sorted shortlist.

Storage

Only preferences are written to persistent storage, under siftSettings in Chrome's local extension storage: enabled state, minimum stars, count mode, rating-count floor, retained percentage, sorting, preferred View layout, and the unknown/sponsored/duplicate switches. Preferences are not synchronized through Chrome's sync storage.

Seen and dismissed product IDs (ASINs), normalized search identifiers, current-page ASINs, and temporary opener-tab associations use chrome.storage.session. This extension storage is held in memory, survives ordinary page navigation and extension worker suspension, and is cleared when Chrome restarts or the extension is disabled, reloaded, or updated. Sift also removes a tab's state and its pending opener records when that tab closes. Up to 20 recent searches per tab and 3,000 IDs per Seen/dismissed list are retained. This data is not written to local/sync storage, placed in Amazon's web storage or cookies, or sent to a server.

Network activity

Sift does not send analytics or communicate with a Sift server. It does not request additional search or product pages in the background. Displaying a shortlist can request product images from Amazon's image hosts; following product, search, and pagination links navigates to Amazon normally. Amazon handles those requests under its own policies.

Access

The extension requests the storage permission and declares content scripts restricted to Amazon.com search URLs and product-page paths. The product-page script reports that a product URL has loaded; it does not inspect account information or review text. This lets the service worker mark a result Seen after the browser's native Open link in new tab action. Tab creation/closure events supply IDs and opener relationships without requesting the tabs or browser-history permission. Like other page-modifying extensions, Sift can read page content on URLs where its content scripts run.

Data use and sharing

Sift uses the product information, search identifiers, and product interactions it processes solely to provide its filtering, sorting, Seen, and hidden-product features. This information stays on your device and is not transmitted to the developer, sold, or used for advertising, creditworthiness, or lending decisions. The developer does not receive or read this locally processed data. Ordinary requests to Amazon for images and navigation are described above.

Sift's use of data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Contact

For privacy questions or support, use the Sift contact form. If you submit the form, Cloudflare processes your optional name, reply email, selected topic, and message to deliver them to the developer's support inbox. The developer uses that information to respond to your request. Please avoid sending account credentials or sensitive purchase details. Contacting support is separate from using the extension; the extension does not automatically send its local search data with a support request.

The contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile and temporary rate-limit counters to help prevent spam. Cloudflare processes verification and network information, including your IP address and browser signals. The server verifies the token before sending a message. The website does not maintain a message database or deliberately log submitted message contents; delivered messages remain in the support mailbox while needed to handle the request. You can request deletion through the contact form, subject to any applicable retention obligations.

Control

Use the popup's On/Paused switch to pause page filtering. Amazon view restores the original layout for the current page. Undo last hide restores the most recently hidden product; Undo all hidden restores all products hidden in this search. What's hidden? opens a list with individual Unhide buttons. Close the source tab to clear its session state. Uninstalling Sift through Chrome removes its local extension settings. The sample demo runs with temporary page-memory settings and product marks and does not access your saved preferences or extension session storage.

This website

This website is hosted on Cloudflare. It has no advertising or Sift analytics. Cloudflare processes requests needed to serve and protect the site under its privacy policy. The contact page loads Cloudflare Turnstile for spam prevention; its data handling is described in the Turnstile privacy policy. Sift sets no advertising cookies or tracking cookies on this site.
